Brandywine Men's Basketball Mid-Season Recap
The Penn State Brandywine Men's Basketball team enters the mid-point of their season with an overall record of 8-9 and PSUAC record of 7-3. Brandywine began the second half of the season with a five game win streak with their first win coming on 1/5/12 against local Division III opponent, Philadelphia Biblical University. Brandywine defeated the Crimson Eagles in Langhorne, PA en route to a 68-59 win behind the perimeter play of guards Rasheed Wilkins (26 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) and Zack DeVito (19 points, 5 rebounds). Next, Brandywine began a four game conference win streak with a 78-69 win at home against a new look Penn State Lehigh Valley team that is in its inaugural season within the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Brandywine outscored Lehigh Valley 44-21 in the second half with Wilkins leading the way with 31 points. Brandon Jacquette added 15 points and who was perfect from the floor, including 3 for 3 from the three point line. Learon Pray chipped in with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Wilkins earned USCAA Player of the week honors for his performance against Penn State Lehigh Valley.
Brandywine captured back-to-back wins on the road against Penn State Schuylkill 72-70 and Penn State Scranton 77-62. All-American Rasheed Wilkins led the way at Penn State Scranton with 27 points while Sean Mulkeen, Learon Pray, and Zack DeVito each netted 12 points apiece. Wilkins led the way again against Penn State Schuylkill with 24 points while McGlynn scored 12 points and Zack DeVito added 11 points. Brandywine returned home and defeated divisional rival Penn State Mont Alto 66-57 with a relentless defensive effort forcing Mont Alto into 18 turnovers. Mike McGlynn paced Brandywine with 21 points (5-7 three point shooting) and 11 rebounds. Brandywine's win-streak was snapped when 2010-2011 PSUAC Champion Penn State Beaver edged out Brandywine on their home floor 81-67 despite Mike Scholz and Mike McGlynn each scoring 14 points with Rasheed Wilkins and Sean Mulkeen adding 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
Brandywine bounced back from their loss to Penn State Beaver with an offensive explosion against Penn State Schuylkill at home en route to a 94-89 victory. Point guard Rasheed Wilkins led the way with an all around performance scoring 33 points, pulling down 12 rebounds, dishing out 8 assists, and grabbing 5 steals. Zack DeVito (16 points), Mike McGlynn (14 points), and Sean Mulkeen (11 points) all reached double figures while Wilkins, DeVito, and Vince Mostardi all hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the win. With seven PSUAC conference games and one non-conference Division III game against Lancaster Biblical College remaining, Head Coach Stuart Ross' team looks to make a late season run towards the PSUAC playoffs and USCAA tournament birth.
