Rutgers-Camden Tops Penn State Brandywine In Tournament Consolation

WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- Four players scored in double figures for the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team, but the Lions were upended by Rutgers-Camden 92-74 on Tuesday afternoon in the consolation game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Tournament hosted by Lycoming College.

Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) just missed recording a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, while Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) tallied a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.

James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby), who was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 27.0 points in two games, netted 16 points and Dimitri Burton (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Roberson) rounded out the Lions in double figures with 15 points.

Rutgers-Camden scored the game's first six points before Brandywine got its offense on track, cutting the deficit to just two at the 8:03 mark following a Spencer jumper.

Davis' layup made the score 30-25, but a 10-2 spurt to close the half sent the Scarlet Raptors into halftime with a 40-27 edge.

Back-to-back baskets by Burton followed by a three-pointer from Fisher helped the Lions pull to within 40-34 during the first two minutes of the second half; however Brandywine was held scoreless over the next four minutes as Rutgers-Camden extended its lead to 17.

Fisher drained a triple with 5:02 remaining to bring Brandywine within 12 and Spencer sank a pair of free throws 35 seconds later to make the score 76-65, but the Scarlet Raptors answered with five-straight points and managed to hold off the Lions.

Wyatt Polk led all scorers with 24 points, while adding five rebounds for Rutgers-Camden, which shot 44 percent from the field. Brandywine shot 37 percent from the floor and the Scarlet Raptors outrebounded the Lions 49-37.

Brandywine (0-9, 0-3 PSUAC) returns home on January 7 to face Eastern University at 8:00 pm.
