DuBois Rallies Past Brandywine

DUBOIS, Pennsylvania -- Penn State DuBois used a 12-1, second-half run to rally for a 64-60 victory over the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine led 41-36 with 14:10 to play following a basket from James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby), but 14 second later Derrick Williams sank a pair of free throws to jumpstart DuBois' surge.

Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) ended the run with a free throw, making the score 46-42. Fisher added a pair of shots from the charity stripe; however, DuBois scored seven of the game's next eight points to lead by nine.

Brandywine trailed by 10 when Fisher's three-point play followed by a bucket and free throw from Chris Lyons (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) sliced the deficit to four.

After DuBois sank one-of-two free throws, Fisher drained a jumper, making the score 61-58. DuBois netted a pair of free throws during its ensuing possession, but Fisher answered with another bucket for the Lions.

Trailing by three, Brandywine was forced to foul again with just seconds remaining. Shaimel Byrd sank one-of-two free throws and the Lions came up empty offensively during their final possession as DuBois iced the game.

Brandywine stormed out to an 11-0 lead after six minutes of play and led by as many 13 before DuBois closed the first half with an 11-1 run, narrowing the Brandywine advantage to 24-21 after 20 minutes.

DuBois grabbed a 34-32 lead early in the second half before two free throws from Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) capped a 7-0 Brandywine spurt that gave the Lions a five-point advantage, but DuBois would use its surge minutes later to retake the lead for good.

Fisher connected on 8-of-20 field goals to lead the Lions in scoring with 21 points, while Turner tallied 14 and Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) added 10.

Spencer pulled down seven rebounds, while Fisher grabbed six. Brandywine committed a season-low three turnovers.

DuBois' Sam Rotelli made 13-of-17 shots from the field and led all scorers with 28 points.

Brandywine (0-11, 0-4 PSUAC) hosts Valley Forge Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
