Fayette Pulls Away; Tops Brandywine

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – Penn State Fayette outscored Penn State Brandywine by 19 points in the second half and ran away with a 94-72 PSUAC men's basketball victory Sunday afternoon at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

Brandywine (0-14, 0-6) led throughout much of the first half , opening with the game's first five points. Pat O'Neill's (Morton, Pa./Ridley) layup gave the Lions an 11-point edge at the 16:05 mark.

Fayette pulled within five, but Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) answered with a three-pointer and Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) followed with two free throws 15 seconds later to push the lead back to double figures.

Davis' free throw at the 7:00 mark made the score 29-21, but Fayette responded with 10 of the game's next 12 points, knotting the score at 31-31 on Brandon Cunningham's three-pointer.

Cunningham gave Fayette its first lead with 4:18 to play in the half with a jumper and the Roaring Lions took a three-point edge after 20 minutes.

A 12-2 surge capped off by two triples from Luke Williams extended Fayette's lead to 12 early in the second half.

Spencer brought Brandywine within seven by sinking a layup, but Cunningham answered with a jumper and CJ Gaddis sank a pair of free throws 17 seconds later to give Fayette at 10-point cushion. The Roaring Lions led by double figures the rest of the way.

Davis scored 18 points to lead the Lions, while Spencer produced his second-straight double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Chris Lyons (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Dimitri Burton (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Roberson) registered nine points and 10 boards off the bench.

Brandywine allowed Fayette to shoot 55 percent, while connecting on just 35 percent of its shots, but Brandywine held a 47-40 edge on the boards.

Cunningham poured in a game-best 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting and Williams added 22 points for Fayette.

Brandywine closes out a four-game homestand Wednesday against Penn State York at 6:00 pm.
