Brandywine wins 100 for Coach Johnson

In the second half, it appeared Penn State Brandywine women's basketball coach Larry Johnson would have to wait at least one game to pick up the 100th win of his career.

Then Brandywine caught fire.

Shari Harper (Chester) paced three players in double figures as Brandywine rallied from a 16 point deficit for a 61-56 victory over Penn State Beaver Friday night to Johnson win No. 100.

"It's a great achievement," Johnson said. "I have to thank all the girls who played for me this year and in the past. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible... These are girls who are just playing for the love of the game. That's why I love this level of basketball. It's not about the money, it's the love of the game."

Harper scored 18 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and made four steals to pace the attack. Brandy Flowers contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Amanda Congialdi added 13 points off the bench for Brandywine (8-9 overall, 6-2 PSUAC).

"We played pretty bad for 30 minutes," Johnson said. "I don't know how we pulled it out. We started a run and came back from 16 down. A 17-2 run got us back into it and we pulled it out."

That effort gave Coach Johnson a milestone victory.

"If I could, I would stay here for the rest of my career. I like the small program and this level. The girls make a great sacrafice. It's a great commitment, they work really hard and they do a great job."
