First home playoff match in years
After the regular season finished Brandywine sat in fourth place in the PSUAC after PSU Fayette, Penn College and PSU Wilkes Barre. Brandywine hosted their first ever home playoff match in 10 years against number five Mont Alto Tuesday, October 18, 2011.
After tough battles on their previous meetings both teams knew what was in store and were ready to battle. The stands at Brandywine were at capacity and the Lady Lions were amped. Taking time during their opponents warm up Brandywine headed to the locker room and was assaulted with pep talks and well wishes by each other, family and their school.
"I have never seen the girls this way," says assistant coach Toni Woodward, "they are more focused and mentally ready then I have ever seen them. I am looking forward to see everything they have learned this season come together in this match and see where it takes them."
The games were tight and went back and forth, neither team able to fully take control and jump to a big lead. The first set went to Mont Alto 25-20. Brandywine came back in the second to win 25-18 but weren't able to carry their momentum to the third and fourth sets and dropped both 25-16 and 25-21 respectively. "Both teams were evenly matched but Brandywine's mental game lacked strength. Its a skill that is hard to learn and even more difficult to coach. We are excited for next season and hope to keep forging ahead and pushing the limits to make it further into playoffs," says Coach Algeo.
