Penn State annually recognizes students on all of its campuses who hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or greater with the Academic Achievement Award. Brandywine students have been honored with the accolade every year since the 1982-83 academic year.
The Brandywine softball team, winners of two-straight conference championships, led the way with eight student-athletes earning awards, while Brandywine's PSUAC champion women's soccer team saw six student-athletes receive the accolade. Three student-athletes from both the men's soccer and women's tennis teams also landed the Academic Achievement Award.
Included among those honored were sophomore baseball player Kevin Roche (Malvern, Pa./Chaminade College Prep (Calif.)), who earned the President Sparks Award, and junior softball player Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), who was an Evan Pugh Scholar Award winner.
Roche, a business major, claimed the award bestowed upon Penn State students who have amassed a 4.0 GPA and earned between 36 and 59 credits during their time as a student at the University. He was one-of-three Brandywine students to receive the award.
Foeldes, who is majoring in psychology, was the only student from Brandywine to receive the Evan Pugh Scholar Award this year.
