Cavanaugh Leads Lions After The Bear Opening Round
KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Matt Cavanaugh (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) was one of four golfers to shoot a round of 75 to lead Penn State Brandywine during the opening round of The Bear, hosted by Ursinus College, on Friday afternoon.
Cavanaugh finished one stroke off his own school record, which he set last year at Ursinus. He tallied three birdies on the afternoon, including two on the back nine, finishing the final nine holes in one-under-par fashion.
As a team, Brandywine sits eighth in the 10-team field with a total count of 342 strokes. Penn College owns the team lead in 305 strokes.
Dominic Guzzo (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) carded a season-low round of 85, while Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished one stroke behind Guzzo. Eddie Ricottone (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) totaled 96 strokes and Nicholas Grantland (Media, Pa./Penncrest) completed his round in 115 strokes.
The second and final round of The Bear begins Saturday at 10:00 AM at Berkleigh Golf Club.
