Cavanaugh, Angle Claim Top Spots At Abington Invitational

MEDIA, Pa. -- Seniors Matt Cavanaugh (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished in first and second place, respectively, as the Penn State Brandywine golf team wrapped up the regular season at the Penn State Abington Invitational on Monday afternoon.

Cavanaugh produced a pair of birdies during his front nine to highlight a seven-over-par round of 77. His round was four shots clear of Angle to become the first Brandywine golfer to claim individual medalist honors since the men's golf team was reinstated at Brandywine prior to the 2017-18 season.

Angle recorded eight pars during his 18 holes, carding a total of 81 strokes to finish in second place. He was one shot better than Abington's Trevor Ridge and Delaware Valley's Trent Parkhurst, who tied for third place.

Rounding out the Lions were Carl Galantino (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and Nicholas Grantland (Media, Pa./Penncrest). Galantino totaled 96 strokes, while Grantland finished his round in 101 shots.

DelVal won the team title with a four-man score of 342 strokes, while Brandywine placed fifth in 355 strokes.

Brandywine is set to compete at the two-day United East Championship with the opening round to be played Friday at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club in Harrisburg.
