Angle Paces Brandywine In United East Championship First Round

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) sits in a tie for 12th place as he paced the Penn State Brandywine men's golf team during the opening round of the United East Conference Championship at Dauphin Highlands Golf Club on Friday afternoon.

Angle produced a career-best round of 75, one shot away from tying the program's low-round record. Angle began the day with a pair of birdies during the front nine and finished with three birdies overall, topping his previous personal-best round set earlier this spring by one stroke.

Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) sits one stroke off Angle's pace as he was one of four players to shoot a round of 76. Cavanaugh's day included three birdies, with two coming during the final nine holes.

Nicholas Grantland (Media, Pa./Penncrest) also tallied a personal-best round, carding a 93. Carl Galantino (Media, Pa./Penncrest) rounded out the Lions with an opening-round 101.

Penn State Harrisburg's Dillon Yinger leads the individual field after a three-under-par round of 69, while Penn College leads team standings.

The conference championship's second and final round begins at 10:00 AM Saturday.
