Brandywine Baseball Signs 15 Newcomers

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine fourth-year head baseball coach Vinny Gallo announced on Tuesday that the team has signed 15 recruited freshmen who will join the team during the 2019-20 academic year.

The student-athletes who will start their careers at Brandywine this spring are Cameron Baughman, Matthew Brucato, Julian Clark, Shane Coleman, Jake Elmer, Jake Finkin, Lex Finkin, Andrew Hoff, Sean MacKay, Daniel Mancill, Nick Manry, Daniel Nearey, Kyle Oechsle, Michael Paytas and Nick Razzano.

Under Gallo's direction, Brandywine won 21 games in 2019, its highest win total since 2014, and finished third in the PSUAC Tournament.

Below are biographies on each of Brandywine's 15 incoming recruits:

Cameron Baughman
Oxford, Pa. | Oxford High School

Baughman was a two-year member of the varsity baseball team at Oxford High School, helping the Hornets to back-to-back Ches-Mont American Division championships. He also competed for the Oxford Legion baseball squad.

Matthew Brucato
Jamesburg, N.J. | Monroe Township High School

Brucato was a varsity baseball player at Monroe Township High School where he received the Spud Dobenski Athletic Award. Brucato also pitched in two games during a Perfect Game Tournament recently, allowing zero runs.

Julian Clark
Somerdale, N.J. | Sterling High School

Clark competed in four years of baseball at Sterling High School in New Jersey.

Shane Coleman
Garnet Valley, Pa. | Garnet Valley High School

Coleman was a member of the baseball team at nearby Garnet Valley High School.

Jake Elmer
Townsend, Del. | Middletown High School

Elmer comes to Brandywine from Middletown High School with four years of varsity baseball experience. He helped Middletown reach the state tournament three times, including a semifinal appearance in 2016, while winning two Blue Hen Conference Flight A championships. A 2017 Perfect Game WWBA All-Tournament Team selection, Elmer received Middletown's Cavalier Award in 2018 and was a team captain during his senior season.

Jake Finkin
Hollywood, Fla. | South Broward High School

Finkin played catcher, first base and the outfield at South Broward High School while competing in three years of varsity baseball, batting in the middle of the team's lineup. South Broward reached the regional round of the state tournament after finishing as the district runner-up in 2018. In addition to baseball, Finkin was also a standout in the classroom at a scholar-athlete and reached the national round of the remote-operated vehicle (ROV) competition.

Lex Finkin
Hollywood, Fla. | South Broward High School

Lex Finkin also owns three years of varsity baseball experience at South Broward High School. Finkin played second and third base and the outfield, while excelling as a pitcher. He was 3-0 with four saves during the 2018 season when South Broward reached the regional state tournament. Like his twin brother, Finkin was a scholar-athlete who received Principal's Honor Roll recognition and reached the national level of his ROV competition.

Andrew Hoff
Thornton, Pa. | Bayard Rustin High School

Hoff played three seasons of baseball nearby at Bayard Rustin High School.

Sean MacKay
Lansdale, Pa. | Lansdale Catholic

A two-year varsity letter winner at Lansdale Catholic, MacKay was named Most Versatile Player on the team after playing seven positions in the field. He was named MVP of his summer team in 2018 after helping the squad win a pair of tournaments.

Daniel Mancill
Myerstown, Pa. | Cedar Crest High School

Mancill was a three-year varsity starter at Cedar Crest High School. He led the team to a sectional championship during his junior season, while earning a first team all-star selection.

Nick Manry
Denton, Texas | Denton High School

Manry comes to Brandywine all of the way from Texas where he played baseball at Denton High School.

Daniel Nearey
Aston, Pa. | Sun Valley

Nearey was a three-sport standout at Sun Valley High School, earning a combined seven varsity letters in baseball, football and wrestling. Nearey topped the team in earned run average, batting average against and strikeout rate on the diamond. As a team captain on the football field, he earned Second Team All-Ches-Mont as a linebacker and was named to the Hero Bowl.

Kyle Oechsle
Coopersburg, Pa. | Palisades High School

Oechsle played three years of varsity baseball at Palisades High School, earning third team all-conference as a catcher during his senior season. Also a honorable mention American Legion standout during the 2018 season, Oechsle earned four varsity letters in football at Palisades. He was a two-time second team all-area offensive lineman and helped Palisades to back-to-back Colonial League titles and District IX championships in 2017 and 2018.

Michael Paytas
Broomall, Pa. | Marple Newtown High School

Paytas earned a state championship in 2018 as a member of the Marple Newtown High School baseball team. Marple Newtown won the Central League title both seasons he was a member of the varsity club. Paytas also led the Broomall Newtown travel team to a district championship in 2017.

Nick Razzano
South River, N.J. | South River High School

Razzano his high school baseball at South River in New Jersey where he was a four-year varsity letter man. As a sophomore, he was selected as the team's offensive player of the year. Razzano served as a team captain during his senior year, claiming team MVP honors.
