MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine freshman Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) was selected as the Penn State University Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week on Wednesday.
Cleary shattered the team's 8K record on Saturday during the Lions' home invitational, running to a time of 28:58. He bested the previous school benchmark by 48 seconds, finishing fifth overall. Cleary helped the Brandywine men's team to a second-place showing in the six-team field.
Cleary has competed in four races for the Lions during his freshman campaign. He also paced the team at the season-opening Bryn Mawr Invitational with a 5K time of 18:59.
Brandywine has one more regular season race remaining on Oct. 20 at the Immaculata Invitational (4:00 pm).
