UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine freshman second baseman Haley Grossi (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) has been selected as the Penn State University Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.
Grossi helped Brandywine win three-of-four games in a key PSUAC series against rival Penn State Hazleton last week by batting .462 (6-13) with six runs batted in and four runs scored.
All six of Grossi's hits went for extra bases against Hazleton, including the first two home runs of her career, as she bashed one in each game of Sunday's doubleheader. Grossi, who delivered a go-ahead, two-run double during Brandywine's 3-1 victory in game one of the series on Friday, recorded at least one hit and drove in at least one run in each game.
Through 16 games, Grossi owns a .366 batting average with 15 hits, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. Her 11 extra-base hits lead all PSUAC hitters and are tied for second nationally in the USCAA.
Brandywine (9-6-1, 4-2 PSUAC) hosts Eastern University Tuesday afternoon before beginning at four-game set versus Penn State York on Thursday at Maple Zone.
