Baseball Releases 2017 Schedule

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine first-year Head Coach Vinny Gallo released the Lions' 2017 baseball schedule on Thursday. The 2017 slate will feature 40 games, including 15 against Penn State University Athletic Conference competition.

For the first time this season, the PSUAC will be split into eastern and western divisions. Brandywine is one-of-six teams in the eastern division, along with Hazleton, Schuylkill, Scranton, Wilkes Barre and York. Each team will play three games against the other five teams in the division. The eastern teams will meet the western teams for the first time during the PSUAC Tournament in April.

The regular season opens for Brandywine on February 19 with a doubleheader at Cabrini, the Lions' first two of nine games against NCAA Division III competition. The Cavaliers are fielding a team for the first time in 2017.

The Lions open the home portion of their schedule with a four-game series against Fisher College (Mass.). The teams will play doubleheaders at Maple Zone on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26 beginning at noon both days.

Brandywine then will hit the road for five consecutive games from Feb. 28-Mar. 24. The trip begins with a visit to Stockton, followed by games at Gwynedd Mercy (Mar. 18) and Delaware Valley (Mar. 22), before opening PSUAC play at Scranton on Mar. 24. Also during that time, Brandywine will play 10 games at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla., from Mar. 3-10 during its annual Spring Break trip. Opponents and game times for those 10 games will be announced at a later date.

Scranton makes the return trip to Brandywine (at Maple Zone) on Saturday, March 25, completing the first of four-straight weekend series against league foes.

Brandywine visits York for single game on Wednesday, Mar. 29 and then faces Schuylkill in a three-game series at the end of the week.

An April 4 trek to Division III Susquehanna ends a string of seven consecutive conference games. The River Hawks advanced to the NCAA New York Regional in 2016, falling one game short of advancing to the Division III World Series.

The Lions return to PSUAC play on April 7 for a three-game series against Wilkes Barre. Brandywine and Hazleton square off for three games the following weekend.

Four of Brandywine's final six games are against non-league competition. The Lions host Central Penn on April 15 for a home doubleheader and then close out PSUAC play with a twin bill against York on April 17.

The Lions' final home game of the season is April 19 against Clarks Summit, while their regular-season finale will be a road game at Penn State Abington on April 20.

The PSUAC Tournament begins on Friday, April 28 when the No. 2 seed in the east will host the No. 3 seed in a single elimination game. If Brandywine claims the top seed in the tournament, it will earn a bye straight to the double elimination portion of the tournament, which will be play at Penn State's Medlar Field in University Park from May 6-7.

For the second consecutive year, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series will be played in Glens Falls, N.Y., from May 14-18. The champion of the PSUAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the national tournament.
