Cross Country Teams Open Season At Abington Invitational
ABINGTON, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State-Brandywine women's cross country team finished fourth in the eight-team field, while a quartet of Lion men competed as individuals at the season-opening Penn State Abington Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Jennifer Petrella led the Lions with an 10th-place individual finish, crossing the line in a time of 27:04. Just behind Petrella were freshmen Annie Mueller and Jessica Powers, who finished tied for 13th place in a time of 28:10.
Sophomore Nicole Maginnis placed 27th with a time of 30:57, one spot in front of her sister, Jessica Maginnis (31:18).
Valerie Santangelo of Penn State Abington earned the women's 5K individual crown, while Ocean Community College claimed the team title.
On the men's side, sophomore Kason Laventure paced the Lions with a 25th-place showing in a time of 37:46 during the 8K race. Classmate Alex Rivera-Santia ran to 37th, while freshman Mario Miceli placed 41st and sophomore Henry Lee claimed 48th place.
Penn State Abington earned the team championship, led by Alex Kane, who sped to the individual title.
The Penn State Brandywine cross country teams return to action on Saturday at the Penn State Greater Allegheny Invitational beginning at 1:00 pm.
