Brandywine Opens Fall Slate At Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams opened their fall schedules Friday afternoon at Rutgers-Camden with a pair of setbacks. The Lions women dropped a 6-1 decision, while the men were bested 7-0 by the Scarlet Raptors.

The afternoon was highlighted by Samma Zahran's (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) No. 1 singles victory. Zahran won in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-4. She also teamed with Emma Kaplan (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) to win five games during their top-flight doubles match, but the duo was topped 7-5.

In addition, Kaplan won three games at No. 2 singles, dropping a 6-0, 6-3 decision.

On the men's side, both doubles squads claimed one game, but were defeated 6-1 as Rutgers-Camden earned the doubles point.

During singles action, Raj Mamidala (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley), Julian Grossman (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and Elias Danesh (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) all won two games before falling by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores.

Brandywine is back in action Saturday afternoon, this time at home, as the Lions host Saint Vincent at 2:30 PM.
