Brandywine Competes At United East Cross Country Championships
HUGHESVILLE, Md. – The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first United East Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Oak Ridge Park.
The Brandywine women placed 11th as a team in the 13-squad field, totaling 255 points. Host St. Mary's featured five of the first nine finishers to claim the team championship.
Tinyia Terrell (Milford, Va./Caroline) became Brandywine's first-ever United East All-Conference performer as she earned second team accolades with an 18th-place finish. Terrell ran the eighth-fastest 8K time in program history, cutting nearly two minutes off her personal-best mark, by completing the 6K run in 27:27.
Adelaide Etshman (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) was the second Lion to hit the finish line, placing 49th in the 88-woman field with a time of 32:30.
Anna Caporale (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) turned in a time of 35:35, while Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) registered a personal-best time of 36:00, almost three minutes quicker than her previous PR. Madison Ollis (Coatesville, Pa./Avon Grove) rounded out the Lions by recording a time of 49:47.
Cairn's Clarisse Hayden completed the course in 24:04 to win the women's individual championship.
The Brandywine men also placed 11th with 318 points, while Penn College captured the men's team title with 49 points.
Jayden Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) paced the Lions in a time of 35:22, finishing 62nd overall. Joshua Mitre (New York, N.Y./School of the Future) ran to a time of 40:34, while Jake Whalen (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) posted a mark of 42:15.
Gage McKenna (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) crossed the finish line in 44:05 to set a new personal-best time and Gui Henn (Exton, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) completed the 8K race in 44:43.
Mitchell Gray of Lancaster Bible earned the individual title by running to a time of 26:04.
