Brandywine Falls Short In Baltimore
BALTIMORE, Md. – Notre Dame University of Maryland built a 14-point halftime lead and defeated the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 76-60 on Saturday afternoon.
Notre Dame ran out to a 12-2 lead through six minutes. The Gators allowed Brandywine to trim the margin to just seven twice during the next nine minutes, the second time coming when Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) canned a jumper at the 4:58 mark, but NDM outscored the Lions 9-2 during the final four minutes of the half to expand the margin to 37-23.
The hosts' run continued into the second half as the Gators used a 13-4 surge to swell their lead to 23 points, their biggest of the day, less than five minutes into the period.
Brandywine cut its deficit as low as 10 points when Ben Bass (Arlington, Va./Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School) capped a 13-4 surge with a layup at the 4:32 mark, but the Lions could not get closer.
Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) scored all 14 of his points during the second half to match Fogg for the team scoring lead. Fogg pulled in a team-high nine boards and handed out three assists, while Little notched six rebounds and four helpers.
Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) chipped in 10 points and Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) added eight points. Malachi Claude (Callaway, Md./Great Mills) tallied six points and seven boards.
Brandywine made 19 of its 22 free throw attempts and held a 39-38 edge on the glass, but committed 18 turnovers and shot 34 percent from the field.
Brandywine will host St. Elizabeth Wednesday beginning at 8:00 PM.
