Three-Point Barrage Lifts Brandywine To Senior Night Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine knocked down 14 three-pointers and had to hold on late for an 84-82 Senior Night victory over Wilson College on Tuesday.

Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) buried three triples and Elijah Bryant (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) canned two of Brandywine's seven first-half threes as the Lions overcame a nine-point deficit to tie the count at 38-all at halftime.

Brandywine netted the first five points of the second half and expanded the lead to double figures when Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) sank a layup at the 14:39 mark.

Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington) caught fire for the Lions, drilling a trio of triples, while adding a layup during a span of 2:04, as the Lions saw their lead grow to 15 points by the midway point of the second period. Malachi Claude (Callaway, Md./Great Mills) connected on two free throws to give the Lions their biggest lead of the night at 72-55 with 7:32 to play.

Wilson came storming back as the visitors knocked down five triples of their own during the next four minutes to trim the margin to just five. The Phoenix brought the deficit to three on three occasions, but Brandywine had a response each time as Wright, Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) all answered Wilson baskets with a bucket of their own.

Wilson climbed within two when Nirobi Peeler canned a triple with seven seconds left. Little sank a pair of free throws to put the Lions up four, but Jalen Pierce was fouled in the act of shooting a three and knocked down all of the ensuing free throws to cut Brandywine's lead to one with two seconds to play.

After Jones knocked down 1-of-2 free throws, Pierce's final three-point heave was off the mark, allowing Brandywine to claim its third-straight United East victory.

Brusha buried five triples and scored a season-high 17 points, while Little also netted 17 points and dished out seven assists. Fogg (11 points) and Wright (10 points) also reached double figures in scoring.

Jones pulled in a team-high 14 boards and Wright collected nine rebounds.

Brandywine shot 14-of-35 from beyond the arc. Wilson was nearly as good at 13-of-30, but Brandywine held a 46-36 edge on the boards and committed just six turnovers.

Brandywine (7-17, 4-11 UEC) closes out the regular season Saturday at Keystone (3:30 PM).
