OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Aided by 16 made three-pointers, Stevenson University defeated the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 78-57 in the first round of the Mustang Classic on Friday night.
The hosts' first three field goals of the night came from beyond the arc as Stevenson opened up an early 9-3 edge. The Mustangs canned nine triples overall during the opening half to build a 41-25 edge by halftime.
Brandywine trimmed the margin as low as 13 points on three occasions during the first seven minutes of the second period, but could not get closer as Stevenson continued its hot shooting, making seven more second-half three-pointers, while shooting 48 percent overall from the field during the final 20 minutes.
Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) paced the Lions with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) sank 5-of-6 free throws and chipped in nine points. Isaiah Johnson (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) added eight points and Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) handed out three assists.
Brandywine (0-4) faces St. Joseph's (Long Island) in the tournament's consolation game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
