Women's Cross Country 11th At USCAA Championship; Rivera-Santiago Races For Brandywine Men's Team
SYRACUSE, New York -- Competing at the USCAA National Cross Country Championship as a team for the first time in program history, the Penn State Brandywine women's team placed 11th on Friday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Alex Rivera-Santiago represented the Brandywine men's team, placing 106th overall.
The Lion women compiled a team score of 332 in the 18-squad field to post the top finish by a PSUAC school. Penn State Worthington-Scranton claimed 15th, while former conference rival Penn College finished 16th.
Dine College earned the USCAA team title with a score of 37 and Elaine Lowe of Cleary University took home the individual crown with a time of 23:04.5.
Freshman Annie Mueller was the first Brandywine runner to cross the finish line, placing 74th (28:51.6), while sophomore Jennifer Petrella was just behind her in 75th (28:54.8). Freshman Jessica Powers completed the 6K race with a time of 29:30.5 for 86th place.
Sophomore Niki Maginnis ran to 97th (29:52.5), while older sister, senior Jessica Maginnis, finished 122nd (31:26.9) in the 178-runner field.
Rivera-Santiago, the third Brandywine male to earn a spot at the national championships, placed 106th during the men's 8K race with a time of 32:27.8.
SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry won its fourth consecutive men's team championship led by Timmy Callahan, who bested the 186-man field with a time of 26:46.3 to earn the individual crown.
