McElroy Records 100th Hit; Brandywine Rolls To Sweep

ASTON, Pa. -- Emma McElroy's (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) 100th career hit was a two-run home run in game one as the Penn State Brandywine softball team rolled to an 8-2 triumph over Notre Dame of Maryland in the opener. The Lions completed the sweep with a 9-2 victory in game two.

McElroy's two-run blast capped the scoring in the sixth inning and was her third hit of the afternoon. She is the 16th player in the 13-year history of Brandywine softball to reach 100 hits, doing so in her 65th career game.
 
The top four hitters in Brandywine's lineup combined for nine hits, six runs scored and six runs batted in. Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and Ava Craddock (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) all recorded two hits. McElroy drove in four runs, while Craddock had two RBI. Bussenger, McElroy and Mushinski all scored twice.
 
April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) allowed a first inning run, but limited the Gators to just one run on four hits the rest of the way to earn her seventh win of the spring. She struck out six in 7.0 innings in the circle.
 
McElroy and Craddock notched run-scoring singles during the bottom of the first inning as Brandywine quickly erased a 1-0 deficit. McElroy added another RBI single one frame later, while Marissa Contino (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) walked and later stole home to up the margin to 4-1 through two frames.
 
Mushinski scored on Craddock's double in the third and crossed home again in the fifth via Ava Rodgers' (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) squeeze bunt. McElroy's 100th 100th hit came sixth inning after Bussenger extended the stanza with a two-out single.
 
Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 9, Notre Dame 2
 
Brandywine completed the sweep by coasting to a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
McElroy and Mushinski combined for six hits and six runs scored as both went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs. Mushinski also drove in four runs, including a two-run homer to begin the scoring in the first inning.
 
The Gators evened the score with a pair of two-out markers in the fourth, but Brandywine busted the game open with five runs on four hits and three Notre Dame errors in the fifth inning. McElroy and Mushinski both tallied RBI singles, while Mushinski came around to score via error.
 
Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) delivered a RBI single and Mushinski crossed home on Rodgers' groundout to provide the final margin in the sixth.
 
Olivia Bowers (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) improved to 3-0 in the circle after tossing all seven frames. Struck limited the Gators to two runs on six hits and fanned four.
 
Brandywine (15-7, 6-0 UEC) visits Penn College for a rematch of the 2025 United East championship game on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
