Mushinski Sets Home Run Records In Sweep Of Immaculata

MEDIA, Pa. -- Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) homered three times in game two, setting Penn State Brandywine's career and single-game home run records, as the Lions powered their way to a sweep of Immaculata on Monday afternoon. Brandywine claimed game one 3-1 and won the nightcap 10-2 in five innings.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 3, Immaculata 1

Brandywine edged the Mighty Macs 3-1 thanks to a three-run fourth inning in the opener.

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton), this week's United East Pitcher of the Week, won her 11th-straight start to improve to 12-2 on the spring. She pitched all seven innings, recording nine strikeouts, while allowing just one run on four hits.

All of the scoring came during the fourth inning as Immaculata put a run on the board before Brandywine answered with three during the bottom of the frame.

Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) led off with a double and Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) followed with a two-run home run, her fourth of the season, to give Brandywine a 2-1 edge. Emma McElroy (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) provided an insurance run by legging out a two-out, infield single that allowed Marissa Contino (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) to cross home.

Culbertson recorded two of Brandywine's seven hits, while McElroy singled and stole a base.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 10, Immaculata 2

Mushinski hit three of the Lions' four home runs during game two, powering Brandywine to the sweep.

Mushinski entered the day needing two home runs to pass Meghan Ferry for the team's all-time home run lead. She tied the career mark with a two-run homer in the first inning and passed Ferry with a three-run shot one frame later. Mushinski became the first Brandywine softball player with a three-home run game by adding a two-run home run during the fifth inning. She finished the game 3-for-3 with seven RBI, one shy of tying the team's single-game RBI record.

DeCillis accounted for the Lions' fourth home run of the day as she matched Mushinski with a two-run blast during the first inning to give Brandywine a 4-0 edge. It was the first home run of her career for DeCillis, who finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Nine of Brandywine's 10 runs came via the long ball. Olivia Bowers (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas) delivered a RBI single that plated DeCillis with the game-clinching run, securing the run-rule victory for the Lions in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Isabella Hurta (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) worked all five innings in the circle to earn her seventh victory of the season. She struck out six and did not yield an earned run, while limiting the Mighty Macs to just four hits.

Brandywine (25-7, 12-0 UEC), which owns an 18-game winning streak, will look to continue its winning ways when the Lions host Valley Forge for their final home doubleheader of the season on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 PM.
