MEDIA, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine scored twice during the second half to rally past former conference foe Penn State Hazleton as the Lions' women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season by a 2-1 score on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite outshooting Hazleton 3-2 during the opening half, the Lions trailed 1-0 at the break as Alexis Marlowe put the visitors on the board at the 15:41 mark.
Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) put the Lions in the scoring column for the first time, notching the game-tying goal just 1:46 into the second period. Priemon stole the ball from a Hazleton defender and drove down the center of the field, firing a shot into the lower right corner of the net.
Priemon appeared as though she would give Brandywine the lead under two minutes later, but her free kick rang off the right post; however, the Lions continued to push offensively and found the go-ahead marker during the 61st minute. Cecilia Ballas (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) worked down the right sideline and slid the ball past Hazleton goalkeeper Esmeralda Telles' right arm to put Brandywine on top.
Hazleton had one final shot in an attempt to tie the score, but Taylor Mims (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) grabbed Alyssa Marlowe's free kick shot. Mims stopped four shots overall, two during each period, to claim her first victory in goal.
Brandywine recorded eight shots on goal, a season high, including four off the foot of Ballas and two from Priemon.
Brandywine (1-2-1) faces Lincoln University on Saturday at noon.
