BALTIMORE, Md. – Three second-half goals were not enough as 10th-seeded Penn State Brandywine was defeated 5-3 by No. 7 Notre Dame of Maryland during first round of the United East Conference Women's Soccer Tournament, the Lions' first postseason trip in its Division III era, on Wednesday afternoon.
The host Gators scored four times during the first 45 minutes, including three markers during the final 6:36 of the opening half, to build a 4-0 edge at intermission.
Despite playing with 10 players for nearly seventy minutes, Brandywine mounted a second-half rally, finding the back of the net three times.
Cecilia Ballas (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) deposited the rebound after Addisyn Fluckey's (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) shot was blocked to get the Lions on the board at the 51:25 mark.
Notre Dame extended the margin back to four goals just 1:28 later, but the Lions continued to push, scoring twice late in the second period. Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) took a feed from Emma Kearns (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and found the back of the net to make the count 5-2 with 13:29 to play.
Priemon's penalty kick with 18 ticks remaining on the clock provided the final margin and delivered the final goal of her 59-match career. Priemon played more matches than all but four players in program history and closed her career ranked third in goals (21), third in assists (16) and fourth in total points (58).
Jasmin Alvarez (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) made 10 saves in net for the Lions, her sixth 10-plus save performance of the season. Alvarez, who played every minute of all 15 matches in goal this fall, registered 117 total saves, a new program single-season record.
The Lions put 12 shots on target, including five from Kearns and four from Priemon.
Notre Dame, which will face No. 2 St. Mary's (MD) in the quarterfinals, received two goals and two assists from Alex Busick.
Brandywine closed out the 2025 season with a 6-8-1 record, a five-win improvement from 2024 under the guidance of Head Coach Alex Nestor.
