ST. MARY'S, Md. – St. Mary's of Maryland scored early in each half to put an end to Penn State Brandywine's six-match unbeaten streak, posting a 4-0 victory over the Lions' women's soccer team on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks put their first goal of the night on the board at the 6:28 mark of the first half. Brandywine goalkeeper Jasmin Alvarez (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) stopped the next six shots she faced to preserve the one-goal deficit entering halftime.
The hosts struck early again in the second period, netting their second marker just 22 seconds into the half. St. Mary's tacked on insurance goals during the 59th and 80th minutes.
Brandywine's top scoring chance came off the foot of Emma Kearns (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) during the 68th minute, but her shot rang off the right goal post.
Alvarez stopped 10 shots, while playing all 90 minutes in net for the Lions. Kearns accounted for two shots, while Addy Stanton (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) recorded one.
Brandywine (5-2-1, 1-1 UEC) hosts Penn State Berks Saturday at 1:00 PM.
