Chargers Clip Brandywine 62-54

LANCASTER, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine held a halftime lead, but Lancaster Bible outscored the Lions 38-28 during the second half to a claim a 62-54 United East Conference women's basketball victory on Wednesday night.

Brandywine trailed 11-4 at the midway point of the opening quarter before Dairayonna Stewart-Harold's (New Castle, Del./William Penn) layup jumpstarted a 9-0 Lions' run. Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) scored the Lions' next six points and Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) added a free throw to put Brandywine on top 13-11 after one period.

Diawara and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) opened the second quarter with consecutive baskets to push the margin to six, but Lancaster Bible answered with the game's next seven points to vault back in front at 18-17. Brandywine outscored the Chargers 8-4 during the next four minutes before LBC ended the half with three-straight points to narrow the Brandywine lead to 26-24 at the break.

Trinell Watson's (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) layup gave the Lions a one-point edge at the 3:29 mark of the third quarter; however, Lancaster Bible answered with the next six points and brought at four-point edge into the final stanza.

An 11-4 Charger spurt to open the fourth gave LBC its largest lead of the night at 11 points. Brandywine trimmed the margin as low as four points as Taylor Mims (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) sank a layup, Allen added a bucket and free throw and Diawara canned a jumper at the 2:28 mark to make the count 58-54. Diawara's basket would prove to be the final points of the night for Brandywine as the Lions misfired on their final three shots and LBC sank 2-of-4 free throws during the final minute to secure the victory.

Diawara paired 13 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Allen notched an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Watson contributed 10 points and seven rebounds and Stewart-Harold collected six points, four boards and three steals.

Brandywine (1-6, 0-2 United East) will play its final home game of the fall semester Saturday against Bryn Athyn at 1:00 PM.
