Brandywine Drops Final Home Game To Wilson
MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team dropped a 77-69 decision to Wilson College during the final game of its home slate on Tuesday night.
Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) combined for 17 first quarter points as the Lions built an early lead. Watson converted a three-point play at the mid-point of the period to make the count 17-8 and after the Phoenix cut their deficit to four, Allen knocked down a free throw and Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) added a bucket just before the horn to bring the score to 22-15 after one.
Wilson used an 8-2 spurt to rally to tie the score at 30-all with three minutes to play in the first half. The visitors took a brief lead 1:45 later, but Koger answered with a jumper to give Brandywine a 34-33 edge at the half.
Allen canned a jumper and Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) followed with a triple to extend Brandywine's lead to 39-33 early in the second half; however, Wilson answered with a 9-2 run to take the lead. The visitors held a three-point lead through 30 minutes and pulled away during the fourth quarter, using a 13-2 surge to build a double-figure advantage.
Brandywine closed within five when Diawara canned a triple with 30 seconds to play, but Wilson sank 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Watson poured in a game-high 24 points and added six rebounds and five steals, while Allen produced 18 points and nine boards. Diawara chipped in eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
Brandywine forced 24 Wilson turnovers, but was limited to 33 percent shooting, while allowing Wilson to shoot 40 percent from the field.
Brandywine will play its final two regular season games on the road beginning Saturday at Keystone (1:00 PM).
