Women's Tennis Falls Short In Season Opener

ASTON, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine women's tennis team was defeated by Neumann by a 6-3 count on Saturday afternoon during the Lions' season-opening match.

After dropping all three doubles matches, Brandywine rallied to win three-of-six singles contests.

Freshmen Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) and Alexis Ellison (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) were victorious during their collegiate debuts. Corey swept her No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-4, while Ellison outlasted the Knights' Lilly Escobar in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 11-9) for the victory at No. 4 singles.

In the fifth flight of singles, senior Kailin Vollmuth (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) earned a straight-set triumph, knocking off Francess Bockary 6-1, 6-4.

Brandywine is back in action Sept. 15 at Rosemont (3:30 pm).
