Women's Tennis Claims Spring Opener Over St. Elizabeth

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine opened its spring women's tennis season with a convincing 9-0 triumph over the College of St. Elizabeth on Tuesday afternoon.

Heather Gartside (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and Amanda Bradley (Norwood, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) combined to claim their No. 1 doubles match 8-1, while Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) and Alexis Ellison (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) swept their No. 2 doubles match 8-0.

Brandywine then posted six singles victories in straight sets. Gartside earned a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the top-flight and Elizabeth Sexton (Berwyn, Pa./Westtown School) swept a 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 2.

Corey and Markera Tymes (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) both won their matches 6-1, 6-0, while Kailin Vollmuth (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) earned a 6-0 ,6-2 win in flight five and Bradley took a 6-2, 6-0 victory in No. 6 singles.

Brandywine hosts Division II Cheyney on April 7 at 3:30 pm.
