Lions Top Rosemont 6-3 For First Victory
ROSEMONT, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine women's tennis team claimed its first victory of the season after defeating NCAA Division III Rosemont by a 6-3 score on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshmen Alexis Ellison (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) and Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) each were victorious in both of their matches. The duo teamed to win their third-flight doubles match 8-4. Ellison claimed a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles, while Corey was also a straight-set winner, taking her fourth-flight match 6-3, 6-0.
Brandywine took five-of-six singles matches during the afternoon. In addition to Ellison and Corey, seniors Amanda Bradley (Norwood, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast), Kailin Vollmuth (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) and Laura Masse (Media, Pa./Penncrest) also won in straight sets.
Bradley was triumphant at No. 2 by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and Masse claimed her No. 3 match 6-1, 6-2, while Vollmuth won a pair of 6-0 sets in the sixth singles flight.
Brandywine (1-1) faces Berkeley College (N.Y.) at home on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 pm.
