Brandywine Sweeps Saturday Match From Carlow

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team earned a Saturday non-conference sweep of Carlow University, winning by set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-20.

Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) led the Lions' offense with a career-high 11 kills, while Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) notched 10 kills and Nia Moore (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) added eight kills. Lara Zima (Hollywood, Fla./Westminster Academy) dished out a team-best 19 assists.

Moore also recorded four blocks on defense, while Zima led Brandywine with 15 digs. O'Reilly and Ava De La Osa (Dania Beach, Fla./Nova) both collected 12 digs.

Brandywine trailed 14-9 midway through the first set, but reeled off 13 of the next 14 points to take command. Piccirillo recorded seven kills during the opening frame, including three during Brandywine's 13-1 run. O'Reilly also tallied three kills during the surge as the Lions opened up a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Lions again pulled away during the middle of the second frame. Kills from Piccirillo, O'Reilly and Zima helped Brandywine score five-straight points that pushed the hosts in front 16-11. After Carlow rallied to tie the count at 17-all, Moore and Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) combined for back-to-back kills, giving Brandywine the lead for good.

Moore recorded four kills and three blocks during the final set to help Brandywine complete the sweep. Brandywine led by as many as five points early in the stanza before the Celtics rallied to within one at 18-17. Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) answered with a kill, beginning a run of four-straight Brandywine points. A kill from Moore and an error from the Celtics helped the Lions close out the set.

Brandywine (3-3) travels to Reading Monday night to face Albright at 7:00 PM.
