Notre Dame Tops Brandywine In Three Sets

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Penn State Brandywine dropped a non-conference volleyball match in straight sets (12-25, 18-25, 15-25) at Notre Dame University of Maryland on Saturday afternoon.

Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) paced the Lions with six kills, while Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Nia Moore (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) both had four. Shayla Howell (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) added 12 assists.

Defensively, Aaliyna Patel (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) notched 12 digs and O'Reilly and Howell both tallied seven. Moore led the Lions with four blocks, while Howell, Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) and Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) all had three.

The Gators ran out to a 12-2 lead and never let Brandywine trim the margin closer than six en route to winning the opening set. The hosts held off a late Lions' rally during the second stanza as Brandywine cut a 13-point deficit to just five, but Notre Dame netted the final two points to grab a 2-0 edge in the match. The Lions hung tough with the Gators during the third frame, but Notre Dame pulled away late to complete the sweep.

Brandywine (4-5) continues non-conference action Wednesday at Rosemont.
