Brandywine Drops Regular-Season Finale To Harrisburg

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team suffered a sweep during its regular-season finale, falling 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-18) to visiting Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday night.
 
Shayla Howell (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) led the Lions' offense with 22 assists, while Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) notched a team-best eight kills. Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) added six kills and Nia Moore (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) contributed five. Rizer also produced two of Brandywine's three aces.
 
Defensively, Aaliyna Patel (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) collected a team-best 11 digs, while Britney Howell (Newark, Del./Delcastle Tech) recorded eight and Howell posted seven. Moore registered a pair of blocks.
 
Brandywine trailed the first set by just four at 14-10 following a Piccirillo kill, but the remainder of the frame belonged to Harrisburg as the visitors scored 11 of the final 13 points to run away from the Lions.
 
Harrisburg controlled the second set, using a 10-2 spurt to push its lead to double figures and cruise to a 25-15 triumph to claim a 2-0 edge in the match.
 
The Lions held a 13-10 advantage thanks to three consecutive kills from Piccirillo, but Harrisburg responded with three-straight points to tie the count and later netted five consecutive points to pull away in the final set.
 
Brandywine (12-11, 6-4 UEC) will learn its United East Conference Tournament date and opponent Saturday following the conclusion of the league's final day of the regular season.
