Chargers Send Brandywine To First United East Defeat

MEDIA, Pa. -- Lancaster Bible recorded a three-set sweep, sending Penn State Brandywine to its first United East Conference volleyball defeat of the season, by scores of 25-7, 25-19, 25-20 on Saturday.
 
Lancaster Bible got out to a quick start, leading the 16-4 and ran away with the first set by a 25-7 count.
 
Brandywine held an early lead in set No. 2, but LBC erased its deficit with an 8-1 run that made the score 16-9. The Lions rallied, climbing to within two at 20-18 thanks to a 7-2 spurt; however, Lancaster Bible put the set away by recording five of the final six points.
 
After falling behind by as many as four points, Brandywine used kills from Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) and Shayla Howell (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) during a 5-1 run to tie the count at 12-all. LBC answered with the next seven points and held off a final charge from the Lions to take the match in three sets. 
 
Howell recorded eight assists and one ace, while Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) registeredd a pair of aces and three kills. O'Reilly and Rizer paced the Lions with four kills each. O'Reilly also had six digs to lead the defense, while Aaliyna Patel (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) notched five.
 
Brandywine (8-7, 2-1 UEC) visits Wilson on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
