Brandywine Cruises To Sweep Of Ravens

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team rolled to a straight-set victory at Rosemont by scores of 25-10, 25-5, 25-11 on Wednesday night.

Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) fueled the Lions' offense with 10 kills, while Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) set down seven of Brandywine's 22 service aces. Rizer also notched six kills and Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) added five. Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) collected a team-high 12 assists and recorded four aces.

Ava De La Osa (Dania Beach, Fla./Nova) had a team-best seven digs to pace the defensive effort.

Brandywine took command of the first set by claiming 11 of the first 13 points following back-to-back kills from Piccirillo and Rizer. The Ravens closed within seven, but the Lions finished out the frame by scoring eight-straight points, capped by Jezyk's ace, to take the opening set.

The second stanza was all Brandywine as the Lions ran out to a 7-1 edge and used a 12-1 surge, aided by three aces from Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), to grab a 2-0 lead in the match.

Molinaro, Piccirillo and Rizer combined for eight kills during the final set, helping Brandywine complete the sweep. The Lions broke the set open with a 6-1 spurt to make the count 13-6 and never let Rosemont narrow the margin to fewer than six points the rest of the way.

Brandywine (5-5) begins United East play Saturday at Cedar Crest (11:00 AM). The Lions will also face Washington College (1:00 PM) during the tri-match.
