Brandywine Falls In First Road Contests

ABERDEEN, Md. – The Penn State Brandywine baseball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 16-0 in seven innings at McDaniel on Saturday night. The Lions dropped game two by a 7-3 count.

Game One: McDaniel 16, Penn State Brandywine 0

Will Collison (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Jamey Massung (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) combined for Brandywine's three hits as Collison registered a pair of singles and Massung posted a base hit and walked.

Brandywine allowed just nine hits, but the Green Terror took advantage of 15 walks issued by Lion pitching, along with a pair of hit batters.

McDaniel needed just one hit to push across eight first-inning runs and tacked on five more in the second. The Green Terror added single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings.

Nate Romberger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) highlighted five Brandywine pitchers after striking out four and allowing one earned run in 2.1 frames.

Game Two: McDaniel 7, Penn State Brandywine 3

The Green Terror completed the doubleheader sweep by winning game two by a 7-3 count.

Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) had a hand in all three Brandywine runs as he collected a pair of run-scoring hits and crossed home following Jason Hankins' (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) seventh-inning double. Brown finished 2-for-2 at the plate, recording a RBI double in the second and run-scoring base hit in the fifth, while walking twice. Collison added three more hits to his ledger.

McDaniel took the lead with a pair of second-inning runs and broke the game open by scoring four times in the fifth inning.

Nick Gordon (Chester Heights, Pa./Garnet Valley) took the loss for the Lions after yielding three runs on four hits and fanning four batters in 3.0 innings. Josh Hess (Panama City, Fla./Arnold) fired a scoreless sixth inning, striking out two.

Brandywine (2-1) looks to bounce back Sunday when the Lions host Delaware Valley at noon.
