Brandywine Bests John Jay 17-7

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team scored the final 11 runs of a 17-7 victory over John Jay, the Lions' fifth-straight win, on Thursday afternoon.

Brandywine scored four first inning runs thanks to run-scoring singles from Miguel Rodriguez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Dan Rohlsen (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and a two-run double by Mason Coursey (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville). The Lions tacked on two more scores one frame later as Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) both crossed home via wild pitch to lead 6-2.

The Bloodhounds plated five runs during the fourth inning to vault into the lead at 7-6, but Ivano Romaniello's (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) ground ball scored Brown with the game-tying run during the bottom of the frame.

Brandywine busted the game open in the sixth inning, scoring six times on just three hits. An error allowed Snyder to score, while Coursey pushed a run across with a base hit. Romaniello and Luke DeVita (Howell, N.J./Howell) both delivered two-run singles.

Seven walks and a pair of wild pitches allowed Brandywine to tack on four more runs in the seventh inning, providing the final margin.

Coursey went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Rodriguez posted two hits and scored twice and DeVita and Romaniello both notched three RBI. Brown reached base safely in all five plate appearances and scored five runs, while Snyder tallied a hit and four runs scored.

Zach Frost (Charlotte, N.C./Hickory Grove Christian) pitched the final 3.1 innings to earn his first win. He did not yield a run, while striking out four batters. Zach Giddins (Oak Hall, Va./Arcadia) started the game on the mound for the Lions and limited the Bloodhounds to one earned run on three hits and struck out three.
