Brandywine Falls In Spring Opener

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams returned for the spring half of the season on Saturday and both teams dropped their respective United East Conference openers to Penn State Harrisburg. Brandywine fell 6-1 on the women's side and by a 7-0 count on the men's side.
 
Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) cruised to a straight-set sweep by identical 6-0 scores to earn the Brandywine women a point. She also teamed with Sydney Mabry (Washington, D.C./Jackson-Reed) to win five games at No. 1 doubles, but the duo was defeated 7-5.
 
Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) won five games during her fifth-flight singles match before falling 6-4, 6-1, while Sofia Guzman (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Berchmans) claimed four games at No. 4 singles.
 
Harrisburg swept three doubles matches to win the doubles point before claiming all six singles bouts in straight sets during the men's match.
 
Mateo Torres (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester), Zairus Silverio (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) and Adib Rahman (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) all won two games during singles action to highlight the Brandywine men.
 
The Brandywine women continue conference play Wednesday against Cedar Crest (4:00 PM), while the men are back in action Saturday versus Penn State Berks (1:00 PM).
