Mushinski And Rees Collect Academic All-Area Awards
MEDIA, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine student-athletes were voted to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Softball Team on Thursday as rising senior Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and rising junior Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) claimed the honors.
To be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be at least a sophomore at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better. The team is selected via voting from 30 four-year institutions within the Greater Philadelphia area.
Mushinski, a communications major, boasts a 3.51 GPA through four semesters at Brandywine. She is a two-time PSUAC All-Academic Team selection and earned the NFCA Scholar-Athlete Award this spring.
The 2024 USCAA National Player of the Year and two-time PSUAC Player of the Year, Mushinski hit .417 with a USCAA-leading 10 home runs and program single-season record 70 RBI in 2024. Mushinski also led all USCAA hitters with 32 extra-base hits and scored 47 runs. She is a two-time USCAA First Team All-American.
Through two seasons with the Lions, Mushinski has totalted 123 hits, 14 home runs and 130 RBI.
Rees, who was named Student-Athlete of the Year by the USCAA and received the John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete Award as the top female student-athlete in the PSUAC, owns the highest GPA among Brandywine's 180 student-athletes at 3.99. A business major, Rees is a two-time USCAA National Academic Team honoree and has collected three all-academic awards from both the PSUAC and NFCA.
On the field, Rees finished second on the team with 64 hits and a .464 batting average en route to being named USCAA First Team All-American this spring. She added four home runs, 37 RBI and 40 runs scored.
A three-time All-PSUAC catcher, Rees has tallied 153 hits, 88 RBI and 106 runs scored in 122 games during her career.
Brandywine captured its second-straight USCAA Small College World Series championship in May and completed the season with a program-record 38 victories. The Lions will compete as a member of NCAA Division III for the first time in 2025.
