Brandywine Splits Regular-Season Finale On Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine concluded the regular season by splitting a Senior Day doubleheader against Keystone on Thursday. The teams split a pair of run-rule games as Brandywine won the opener 11-3 and Keystone claimed the nightcap 13-0.
 
Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Keystone 3
 
Brandywine scored seven times during the second inning and never looked back, winning by an 11-3 count in five innings.
 
Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) singled, stole two bases and scored on Emma McElroy's (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) groundout to start the scoring the first inning.
 
The Lions sent 11 batters to the plate during the second frame, plating seven runs on five hits. Gigi Duca (Bear, Del./Smyrna) and Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) both drove in a run with a single, while McElroy recorded a two-run knock and Ava Craddock (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) tripled in a pair of runs.
 
Keystone got three runs back in the third inning, but Sam Gonchar's (Brick Township, N.J./Monroe Township) base hit scored Craddock to make the margin 8-3 through four innings.
 
Brandywine closed out the game in five innings as Craddock and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) came around to score on Shelby DeCillis' (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) double.
 
Playing the final games of her career at Maple Zone, senior Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) earned the win in the circle. She recorded four strikeouts, while allowing three runs in five innings of work.
 
Craddock was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and two RBI, while McElroy drove in three runs and stole a pair of bags. Bussenger singled, walked twice and swiped five bases.
 
Game Two: Keystone 13, Penn State Brandywine 0
 
After three scoreless innings, Keystone errupted for 11 runs on 10 hits, while sending 16 batters to the plate during the fourth inning.
 
Brandywine was limited to four hits, two of which came from Bussenger. Bussenger also stole her sixth base of the day, while McElroy and Anna Caporale (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) both recorded a base hit.
 
After finishing the regular season with a 14-2 record in the United East Conference and 30-8 overall, Brandywine will receive a bye through the first round of the UEC Tournament and will host a second-round, three-game series beginning Friday, May 2 at Marple Newtown High School against an opponent that will be determined next week.
