Karly Rees Named Academic All-American
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine rising senior Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) was named Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday, landing second team honors.
Rees is Brandywine's fourth softball student-athlete to earn academic all-American laurels during the 11-year history of the program and the eighth student-athlete from Brandywine overall to receive the prestigious award. Among Penn State's 20 campuses that sponsor varsity athletics, only University Park and Behrend have produced more academic all-Americans than Brandywine.
Rees will enter her senior year at Brandywine holding a 3.99 GPA, the highest among Brandywine's 180 student-athletes, as a business accounting major. She is a six-time Dean's List honoree, while earning three NFCA Scholar-Athlete and PSUAC All-Academic Team selections, along with two USCAA National Academic Team honors.
At the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year, Rees became the fourth Brandywine student-athlete to claim USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year accolades. She was also tabbed as the top female scholar-athlete in the PSUAC, earning the John S. Egli Award in May.
A USCAA First Team All-American in 2024, Rees is a three-time all-conference catcher who owns a .424 career batting average in 122 games. She stands third in team history with 153 hits, while also ranking in the top 10 in program history in runs scored (106), RBI (88) and doubles (36).
Rees helped Brandywine capture its second-straight USCAA Small College World Series championship last season. She was named to the All-Tournament Team after collecting six hits, three runs scored and two RBI during the two-game championship round against Salem University.
Brandywine, which set a program record with 38 victories in 2024, will begin its first year as a member of NCAA Division III and the United East Conference this fall.
