United East Tabs Hurta As Pitcher Of The Week
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Isabella Hurta (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) was selected as the Pitcher of the Week by the United East Conference on Monday.
Hurta went 3-0 and tossed the first two complete-game shutouts of her career during three starts in the circle last week.
Hurta worked all five innings of a 8-0 triumph at Haverford last Tuesday. She struck out four, while allowing just three hits in the win over the Fords. Two days later, she held Delaware Valley to one run on five hits in 7.0 innings, striking out three.
Hurta aided Brandywine in sweeping Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday as the Lions opened conference play with two victories. She spun her second complete-game shutout of the week, recording four strikeouts during 7.0 innings in the circle.
In eight starts this season, Hurta owns a 6-2 record and is tied for third in the United East in wins. She also stands fourth in earned-run average (1.97), tied for eighth in complete games (6) and tied for 12th in strikeouts (32).
During her two-year career, Hurta has appeared in 19 games, earning nine wins, while posting a 2.61 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 69.2 innings.
Brandywine (13-5, 2-0 United East) travels to Cairn on Wednesday for a 3:00 PM doubleheader.
