Brandywine Falls At Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team mounted a second-half rally, but the Lions came up short at Penn State Harrisburg, falling 64-51 on Tuesday night.

Brandywine forced eight first-quarter turnovers, but Harrisburg netted the period's final eight points to build an 11-4 edge through 10 minutes. Mikayla Coleman knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to open the second quarter and Harrisburg expanded its lead to 29-13 by intermission.

The hosts scored the first bucket of the second half; however, the Lions answered with three-straight points from Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), a free throw from Tejanae Ballin (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) and Jazmyn Kemp's (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) layup to climb within 11. Abigail Adorno (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Lehman) knocked down two free throws at the 4:29 mark to get the margin to nine, but that is as close as Brandywine would get. Harrisburg ended the third period with a 12-5 run to lead 46-28.

After trailing by as many as 18 points during the final quarter, Brandywine made one final push, trimming the margin to 10 points following Analise Sierra's (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) layup at the 1:29 mark. Harrisburg held off the Lions rally by countering with the next four points.

Kemp produced a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double, her first of the season, while Watson paced the Lions in scoring with 14 points after knocking down 4-of-8 field goals and 6-of-7 shots at the free throw line. Ballin added eight points and Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) pulled in six rebounds.

Brandywine shot 31 percent from the field and held a 44-42 edge on the boards, but sank just 17-of-32 free throw attempts.

The Lions are back at home on Tuesday, Dec. 2 to face Cheyney at 7:00 PM.
