Haverford Knocks Off Brandywine To Close Out Calendar Year

MEDIA, Pa. -- Playing its final game of the calendar year, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team suffered a 66-43 defeat at the hands of Haverford College on Saturday evening.

Behind seven points from Ashley Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson), Brandywine led for nearly the entire first quarter before the Fords rallied late to tie the count at 13-13 through 10 minutes.

The Lions netted the first bucket of the second period; however, Haverford answered with a 19-4 surge to claim a 13-point edge. Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) ended the Lions' scoring drought with a triple and Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) knocked down a pair of free throws with 53 seconds remaining in the half to bring Brandywine within 36-26 at intermission.

Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) netted the first three second-half points as Brandywine continued to trim the deficit, climbing within seven, but Haverford took control of the game, closing the third quarter with 11 of the final 15 points.

The Fords buried a pair of triples during the opening minute of the final stanza and held a lead of 20-plus points the rest of the way.

Robinson paced the Lions with nine points and pulled in five boards, while Kemp and Sierra both produced seven points. Kemp led the Brandywine effort on the glass with 10 boards.

Brandywine will take a three-week break for finals and the holidays before returning to action Saturday, January 3, against Penn State Berks (3:00 PM).
