Brandywine Powers Past Valley Forge For Second-Straight Road Win

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine built a 19-point halftime lead and never looked back en route to downing Valley Forge 64-42 in United East Conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night.

Brandywine scored seven of the game's first nine points and held a 15-9 edge through 10 minutes.

Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) and Ashley Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) combined for the first seven points of the second period and Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) added a layup as Brandywine's lead ballooned to 15 points less than five minutes in.

Lucy Mauerman netted eight second-quarter points for the Patriots to help the hosts hang around, but Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) sank two free throws and Cassidy Tolbert (Austell, Ga./Pebblebrook) tacked on a bucket during the final 47 seconds to hand Brandywine a 36-17 advantage through 20 minutes.

The Lions scored eight-straight points to begin the second half, including four from Watson, to increase the lead to 27 points. Brandywine led 54-28 after three quarters and held a 29-point edge, its largest of the night, when Sierra canned a jumper with 6:59 to play in regulation.

Watson poured in a team-high 19 points and recorded six rebounds and five steals. Kemp coupled 12 points with 14 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season, while Robinson tallied 11 points, five boards and three steals. Sierra added nine points, three assists and three steals. Journey Handy (Delmar, Md./Delmarva Christian) totaled eight points, while Tolbert chipped in five points, four assists and three steals.

Brandywine forced 40 turnovers for the second-straight game and outscored the Patriots 34-14 in the paint. The Lions limited UVF to 31 percent shooting and held a 37-34 edge on the glass.

Brandywine travels to Notre Dame of Maryland Saturday for a 3:00 PM United East Conference game.
