Brandywine Falters In Second Half Against Division II Wilmington

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine was tied 30-30 with Division II Wilmington University at the half, but the Wildcats outscored the Lions 45-21 during the final 20 minutes to secure a 75-51 women's basketball victory on Thursday night.

Brandywine led for nearly the entire first quarter before Wilmington netted five of the final seven points to claim a 17-15 edge.

Taylor Mims (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) recorded consecutive buckets and Ashley Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) added a free throw to open the second period with five-straight points for the Lions; however, Wilmington answered with 10 of the next 12 points to move in front by five.

The Wildcats held a 30-24 edge with less than 60 seconds to go before the half, but the Lions reeled off three baskets in 44 seconds to knot the count at halftime. Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) and Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) tallied back-to-back baskets before Mims collected a steal and found Robinson for a buzzer-beating layup to end the frame.

Robinson converted a three-point play with 5:02 to go in the third period to make the count 38-36, but those would be the Lions' final points of the quarter. The Wildcats took advantage of Brandywine's cold spell, which extended 1:16 into the fourth quarter, recording 17-straight points to build a 55-36 advantage.

Watson poured in a game-high 20 points, while Robinson notched 13 points, six rebounds and four steals. Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) contributed eight rebounds and four blocked shots, both team highs, and Mims tallied seven points and six steals.

Brandywine (4-14, 4-3 UEC) visits Wilson Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
