SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine built a 6-0 lead and held on to defeat Penn State Schuylkill 8-4 during the Lions' final men's soccer non-conference match of the fall on Thursday afternoon. The victory pushed Brandywine's unbeaten streak against Penn State University Athletic Conference opponents to 90-straight matches dating back to 2015.
Robbie Warren (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) netted the first two goals of the day for the Lions, scoring twice before 10 minutes of regulation had expired. Warren's first goal came off a long feed from Juan Romero Luna (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) at the 7:58 mark. Fifty-eight seconds later, he headed home Kyle Reuter's (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) corner kick for a 2-0 margin.
Brandywine doubled its lead before the half as Francis Sarpong (Germantown, Md./Northwest) and Omar Simpson (Bear, Del./Christiana) both found the back of the net.
Warren completed a hat trick just 33 seconds into the second period and then assisted on Lukas Garthwait's (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) first of three goals just 1:17 later, pushing the lead to six.
Schuylkill scored three times in a span of fewer than five minutes to cut the Lions' lead in half, but Garthwait added two more markers, one in the 67th minute and another in the 75th minute, to help Brandywine hold on.
Garthwait and Warren both had seven-point games, while Reuter added to his school-record assist total with two helpers.
Brandywine outshot Schuylkill 30-10 and put 27 shots on target. Will Manarpaac (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) stopped three shots to earn the win in goal for the Lions.
After beginning October with three games on the road, Brandywine (3-6-3, 0-3 United East) will return home for a conference match with St. Mary's of Md., on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
