Brandywine Blanks Bryn Athyn On Senior Day

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team won its second-straight United East Conference match and for the third time in four games overall as the Lions bested Bryn Athyn College 1-0 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.

The difference in the match was an own goal as Bryn Athyn put the ball in its own cage. Following a long lob from Ethan Faulkner (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) down the middle of the field, a Bryn Athyn defender attempted to head a pass back to goalkeeper Troy Billingslea, but the pass was over the outstretched hands of the keeper to give the Lions a 1-0 edge during the 68th minute.

Brandywine's defense suffocated the visitors, allowing just one shot on goal during the match. Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson), who was honored along with defender Ray Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) on Senior Day, stopped that shot early in the first half to record his third shutout and fourth victory of the fall.

Bryn Athyn recorded a pair of shots during the final minutes, but neither was a threat to get past DeBooth as one was blocked and another attempt went sailing wide.

The Lions piled up 14 shots, including three each from Robbie Warren (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) and Jacob Drummond (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver). Brandywine also attempted eight of the match's 10 corner kicks.

Brandywine (5-7-3, 2-4 United East) will look to win its third-straight United East match Tuesday when the Lions visit Penn State Berks at 7:30 PM.
